The sections below describe the system, software and hardware requirements for developing Java iPhone applications using the FlexyCore iSpectrum.

Supported Operating Systems

  • Windows XP (32-bit) or Vista (32- or 64-bit)
  • Mac OS X 10.4.8 or later (x86 preferred, see note below)
  • Linux

Required Softwares

To begin using iSpectrum, you will need to have installed on your computer:
  • Eclipse 3.4 (Ganymede) or 3.5 (Galileo)
    • Recommended Eclipse IDE packages: Eclipse IDE for Java Developers,
    • or, an Eclipse Java Development Tools (JDT) plugin (included in most Eclipse IDE packages).
  • JDK or JRE, version 5 or later
  • iPhone SDK (optional, see note below)

Note: If JDK is already installed on your development computer, please take a moment to make sure that it meets the version requirements listed above. In particular, note that some Linux distributions may include JDK 1.4 or Gnu Compiler for Java, both of which are not supported for FlexyCore Plug’ in.

Note: If you want to compile and obtain an iPhone binary application or an iPhone simulator binary application, you must have installed the iPhone SDK on a MAC OS X on x86 only and use FlexyCore iSpectrum on this system.

Hardware requirements

For the base iSpectrum package, at least 30MB of available disk space is needed. Hardware must have at least 1GB of memory, 2GB is preferred.
